Tyler’s appeal for Electric Wheelchair

In March 2016 the JCF West London team supported an event to raise funds and awareness for an illness named Ataxia. At this event manager Julia Romp was privileged to meet a 9 year old boy called Tyler who was there along with his family. Tyler has been diagnosed with Freidreichs Ataxia (FRDA)which is a disease of the central nervous system.

The symptoms of FRDAinclude difficulty withbalance (disequilibrium), impaired coordination of legs or arms and a thick or slurred speech (dysarthria). Besides having these symptoms Tyler also has cardiomyopathy of his heart and scoliosis. He has gone from being a normally functioning young boy to a lad that can only move if supported bya family member, crawling, or his regular push along wheelchair.

JCF has been told that that it will cost in the region of 6,000 to fit Tyler with a purposebuilt electric wheelchair which will enhance his life, so much so that it is the aim of Julia and theJCF London team to help Tyler and his family make a considerable dent in their fundraising target.
