JCF volunteer Sonja enjoyed her visit to Africa last year with the North Devon based charity Emmanual Stepping Stones so much and is going back again in June 2013 with the charity “Health Improvement Project Zanzibar” charity number 1115604. Sonja is raising funds with a group of other fundraisers, including singer Peter Andre, by taking part in the “Road to Zanzibar” charity bike ride covering a distance of some 237km. Sonja says “despite the seemingly perfect environment in Zanzibar, life is tough. The current average life expectancy is a staggering 47 years. One in 180 women die during delivery of their child and 1 in 6 children die under the age of 7 with the majority dying when aged less than 2 years. HIPZ is developing Makunduchi and Kivunge Hospitals and thereby improving the provision of healthcare to the population of Zanzibar and you can be a part of the solution. You can and will make a difference, so please dig deep and donate now.”
